midori teapot
midori teapot
celadon kyusu teapot
origin: tokoname, japan | era: mid-20th century | material: high-fired green porcelain with crackle glaze
midori, japanese for “green,” is a finely balanced kyusu-style teapot that symbolizes nature and growth. distinguished by its side handle and harmonious circular form, the surface bears a luminous celadon glaze — a rich jade hue with a delicate crackle pattern that whispers of age and authenticity. smooth to the touch, yet subtly textured under light, it speaks to the quiet craftsmanship of tokoname’s famed ceramic tradition. designed for function and grace, its shape invites a slow pour, encouraging the meditative practice of tea preparation.
the first collector, a retired tea ceremony instructor, preserved it alongside other classic forms used in daily sencha rituals. the kiln itself is no longer active, rendering each remaining piece a finite artifact of post-war japanese studio pottery.
